Local readers I’m sharing another treat with you today. I was ecstatic when Chris LaShomb, an old friend,  reached out and told me all about this new project.  I think you will be excited too! ;)

Chris and I met on the very first day of our freshman year at SUNY Oswego. Scared freshman both majoring in broadcasting! I’m very excited to share with you his new project.

Part of healthy-living has always been sharing the excitement with others. And I think this show will be a great way for locals to kickstart some ideas for getting active in the outdoors.

Chris is the TV host and creator of Xpedition Outdoors. A new outdoor adventure show debuting TONIGHT on WPBS.  The show highlights the natural beauty of the Adirondacks that can be seen through a variety of outdoor activities. One teaser clip and I am hooked, check out the clip below.

Growing up near the Adirondacks I have always been amazed at the amount of summer and winter outdoor fitness workouts that are available. I’m using this show as my get out of winter funk as well. It’s inspiring me to get out there and enjoy the beautiful place I live in!

I gave Chris some interview questions so you can get a better feel for the show as well as learn a little about Chris!

Name/Occupation: Chris LaShomb/ Relationship Manager and TV Host for Xpedition Outdoors

How did you get into extreme sports?
It was a natural progression through my love of nature and outdoors activities. Wanting to stay healthy and active. The show is not all about being extreme but we do plan on doing some extreme adventures in the future.

What is your favorite Adirondack sport?
Hiking, fishing, and canoeing

For beginners what would you suggest to try first in extreme sports?
Whitewater rafting, rappelling, or ice climbing

Who will enjoy your show?
The show is geared towards the average person who enjoys exercise, the outdoors, and new adventures. Although we will be doing some high adrenaline adventures/expeditions we also will be going on adventures anyone will be able to do. One of my main goals for the show is to motivate people to get out and experience the places and adventures they see on the show. I also hope to expose the amazing scenic beauty and natural resources throughout NY to people throughout the country and hopefully they will travel here to experience them.

What is your favorite extreme sport?
Not sure yet, some of the adventures we plan on filming I will be experiencing for the 1st time I will let you know after we film season 1.

What is your favorite physical activity?
I love being on the water and really enjoy water sports and paddle sports. Canoeing and swimming are both great physical activities and a few of my favorites.

What is your best tip for those looking to get extreme?
To enter Xpedition Outdoors casting contest and we can learn how to be “extreme” together. Other than that start small and build upon each outing.

Random question would you rather run a half marathon 13.1 miles OR swim across a river?
I grew up on a river and feel at home on the water, I definitely would pick swimming across a river.

Additional Details:
I came up with the concept for the show which is aimed at highlighting the great outdoor adventures and scenic naturally beauty throughout Northern and Upstate NY, the Adirondack Park, and other regions of the Empire State. We plan on doing some high adrenaline adventures/expeditions and also some that the average person can do. One of my goals for the show is to motivate people to get off their couch or computer and to get out and experience some of the adventures and places the show will highlight.

Growing up I always enjoyed filming the adventures my friends and I would go on and that was a main reason I decided to go to college for Broadcasting and Mass Communications. About 6 years ago I began to film all of my outdoor adventures and began to put them online and they started to get a lot of views so I thought I may be on to something. I was lucky enough to be asked to be part of a documentary called The Raquette River Experience and through that filming I started a relationship with a local PBS station WPBS. My good friend who has worked with the station for many years helped get me the opportunity to present the idea for the show to the station. WPBS really liked my idea and believed in me and gave me this amazing opportunity. It is pretty crazy that a few months ago this was just an idea in my head and now the show is a reality.

One aspect of the show I’m really looking forward to is the casting contest. We are going to allow people to enter to be a guest on future episodes. I’m really looking forward to meeting new people through the contest and for people to step out of their comfort zone and try a new adventure with me. For more information about the show and the casting contest check out wpbstv.org and also like their facebook page.

YES YOU can enter to win a guest spot on an upcoming episode! How cool is that? Be sure to visit their page to enter!

Of course check out the Broadcast Premier of Xpedition Outdoors tonight on WPBS at 7:30pm! Get inspired to get outdoors!

I’ve only known Chris for a little over a year and I can tell you that he is an outstanding fisherman and an easy person to speak with. His love and passion for the outdoors is evident when you listening to stories of his past expeditions outdoors.
