Life is a balancing act. We all have our role in keeping the plates in our lives spinning. It’s a fine art of keeping things even, steady and smooth. We have work commitments, family, hobbies, health, fitness and countless others in the course of a day begging for our attention and time. Keeping them all running smoothly is a challenge for even the best of us.
My health and fitness levels were never really much of a priority to me in the past. Sure I would run A LOT but that was it. And at some point my body got smart to the fact that I never really pushed it out of its comfort zone. So while I was running lots of miles at a gingerly pace, I stopped reaching my goals in weight loss and speed. However fast I finished a race was fine. At least I got up and ran right? I started seeing pictures of myself that didn’t reflect the work and time I was putting in.
I had spent months balancing my life. If it meant eating crappy because it was fast and I was in a hurry, I did it. If it meant running a race I hadn’t trained for because I had no time. I did it. I stayed up late to finish work projects even though sleep was more of what my body needed. I thought I was pretty good at balancing the pieces but I was spending a lot of time with nothing to show for it. I wasn’t really balancing it at all. I was simply fumbling through.
2013 is my year. I got serious about changing my habits and making my health a priority in my life rather than something I casually did. I realized that by putting my fitness levels and health at a higher priority in my balancing act it was actually making ALL my priorities easier.
I started out by adding one day of weights into my weekly workouts. I started feeling stronger! What’s Beautiful: overcoming fear and stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new! I started doing just that, with all new workouts. From Barre to TRX to Bootcamp it was more than just running. Each class made me learn something new about my fitness levels and challenged myself. Plus I got to share those experiences with you!
I got stronger and started to see more results from my efforts. Mind you the time I spent working out wasn’t increasing, I was just shaking it up. I was still balancing 1 hour a day workouts but now there were results!
I got super serious about my diet and the food I was putting into fueling my workouts. I completed whole30 and saw what just 30 days of giving my body real food could do for it! I’m skipping the “eat because it’s easy meals” and replacing them with food I prepare and cook myself.
My goal for this campaign is to Finish P90X strong and PR a warrior dash, #Iwill reach my goals! P90X is even teaching me some new ways to balance. A pivotal piece of the program is CORE work. My core has always been an issue, as it is for many of us. To be honest, I’ve never given it the attention it deserves. I always assumed it I lost enough weight I would just magically get a strong core in the process. WRONG!
P90X is changing that for me whether I like it or not! My abs have never received the attention they are getting through this program.
As I strengthen my core lots of my other goals are coming together too. My running times are getting faster. I’m using my core to help me move heavier and heavier weights. 5 weeks ago I could not hold this pose, funny how quickly things can change! I was a wabbly mess. I couldn’t hold my legs up. And was struggling to even balance on my side. With practice and hard work now I can hold this pose even, steady and smooth. #Iwill reach my goals!
I never thought I would ever say I’m enjoying these new core workouts. They are another piece of my fitness journey that is coming together. Being able to balance with my heels to heaven is making it easier to balance my other life priorities. I crave healthier clean food. I have more energy for my kids, and work doesn’t stress me out to the point of no end, because I have a release for it.
My life, health and fitness goals coming together are #whatsbeautiful.
