Cue Dramatic Music…..It’s 10pm on a Friday Night…. do you know what healthy-living means? Dun, duh, dunnnnnnn. (that’s me singing dramatically!)
Whenever I’m asked about my blog people always want to know what I write about? And I normally respond with I’m a healthy-living blogger and I write about health and fitness. Yesterday when these words rolled out of my mouth I had a momentary hiccup. What the heck am I saying?
Today I turned on my TV to a news Healthy-Living segment where a woman was having a mole removed. *Gasp* I’ve never had a mole removed and yet it is obviously some how involved in healthy-living and I know nothing about it!
So what the heck does healthy-living mean?
- Is it about feeling healthy?
- Is it about making choices that are healthier? For example I skipped the donut this morning and had overnight oats instead = healthy living
- Is it just about fitness?
- Is it about health? I am not a doctor, I can not tell you about medicine.
- Is it just about running, crossfit or barre? I have no idea, what was the question again?
- Is it about fitness gear and apparel? No, but that is fun stuff to talk about.
All of these questions are making me consider what I think healthy-living is.
When I started this blog a year and a half ago, it was a way to keep track of what I was doing. The yo-yo of weight loss and gain was getting me discouraged. I was running regularly yet I was gaining weight, something needed to change. One way to keep track of it was to have a blog. When setting up my blog I needed to choose what direction I wanted the writing to go in. I chose HEALTHY-LIVING, there it is that word. I write about food, exercise, running, workouts, clothing, fashion, family events, kids, aqua aerobics the list goes on and on yet I never say THIS is healthy-living.
If I had to sum it up for myself I would say healthy-living is the feeling I get when I fill my body with healthy, clean food, my soul with positive energy and challenge myself physically and mentally each day. It’s not a certain number of blog readers, or a number on a scale. Instead it is the harmony my life gets when I make choices that reflect where and who I want to be. And I think each person has their own levels for healthy-living.
I like balance. I don’t often post on here when I have a bender and enjoy some fine alcoholic brews but guess what it happens. I also don’t always post when the family hits up the ice cream shoppe, and shame on me for not posting those more often. But let’s be honest a photo of an inhaled ice cream cone doesn’t make for pretty pictures…it’s SO good once it hits your lips 😉 But I’m human and those moments happen, they don’t make this blog any less about healthy-living because for me they still fall into my definition of healthy-living. Ice cream with my family and a beer or two with friends fill my soul with happiness.
Yoga and Duck Dynasty also fill my soul with happiness. The best is the two of them together:
While I continue to grow so to does my definition of healthy-living.I can’t put my finger on WHAT healthy-living is or the perfect way to do it because it’s something I’m still figuring out. When I make a healthy choice and then make another I feel better and to me that is healthy-living just being better than yesterday.
Question of the Day: How do you define healthy-living?
