I was secretly relieved when I didn’t get my registration in for the Syracuse Half in time. It gave me a little whomp, whomp feeling but also mentally took about 4 years off my stress level. Then late last week circumstances changed and it looks like I will be running the half after all.
Ohhhhhh Boy! We are about 55 days out and I have not been keeping up with my running. My workout levels are probably good enough right now to help me push through but 55 days of training might be a little ambitious. My last half was the Syracuse Half in 2015.
So I re-downloaded my good friend Hal Higdon.
Clearly I’ve cut my training time in HALF for this race, rather than last year where I had plenty of time. No worries though I have faith that Hal will get me across the finish line in April. I moved the bar to the level I needed to be at 55 days which called for a rest day (ha) I think I’ve taken all of those so far, instead I jumped ahead to today’s 3 mile tempo run.
Oh tempo runs I love you. Nice easy miles to pass the time. Of course the only time I had yesterday was during my lunch so it turned into a few miles slightly faster than a tempo run. 27 minutes and 3 miles on a treadmill….I know, I know I’m a lucky lady. Ugh I need to get back into treadmill runs since this weekend is calling for the first 8 miler.
This is going to take some serious planning on my part since we are across the state with hockey this weekend. It’s been a while since I’ve had a 4am wake up to run call but I might find myself there this Friday. Oh the joys of training with a full time job and kids who play hockey.
I’m determined to stick to the plan for this race, I need a new challenge and focus. Plus I think right now a good sit back and let someone else plan the workouts is in order. I’ve got forward momentum right now for weights and boxing but I’ve been struggling in the complete cardio department.
So be prepared to hear me whine about all the running I’m going to be doing over the next 55 days…sweet baby feet don’t fail me now
Also speaking of cardio, I’ve been recording some new videos and will hopefully soon be putting my new go pro to work with some longer length workouts. But for now here is the cardio move of the day: 1:00 of these and you’re heart will thank you.
If you are building you’re fitness up start with a tap of the foot on each side of the bench make sure the core is engaged and you aren’t using too much momentum to get from side to side. As you get strong start with every other side is the pop over, as you build the muscles you will be able to spring from side to side using core.
And that’s all the fun things I have going on this week in my workouts. I would really like to get back to the MMA class and get in some yoga somewhere but it might need to be at home.
Question of the Day: What are your workouts like this week?
