I recently read a great post on the positive benefits of early risers, and I’m starting to get it. I’ve always been an early riser mostly because I grew up on a farm so my mornings started wayyyyy before the first period school bell rang. That stuck with me for the first year of college I remember getting up to do laundry at 6:15 Am in the dorm only to be attacked by some
livid folks non morning people.
I remember when my husband and I were first living together I would go religiously to 5:30am spin classes. He got up and went to work and I got up and hit the gym. The gym morning opener and I were on a first name basis, it was wonderful!
But sometime after the birth of my first son my early mornings were gone. Sleep was precious and even a 9am wake up call became too early. It may have had something to do with the endless feedings and nighttime wake up calls. I love my kids but looking back I have NO idea how I did all the evening feelings and still managed to work a full-time sales job. no wonder I stopped being a morning person!
Lately though I’m getting my morning groove back. There is something peaceful about the mornings. It’s a quiet time to type up a blog post, read the paper (online of course), or enjoy a hot cup of coffee.
As a full-time working mom it is the one time of the day that is truly mine and mine alone. I can plan my day, visualize my weekend or even get in a great work out without the constant interruptions that come during any other time in my day.
This morning my workout was a butt/arm burner and it was all complete by 7am!
5 minute warm up of 4.0
1.5 minute run 7.2
1 minute walk 4.5 with 5 pound hand weights
Repeat 10 times and finish with a 5 minute cool down and stretch
Are you an early riser? What is your favorite thing to accomplish before everyone else gets up?
