How I love sunny mornings!
Sadly there was no workout this morning. I’m running a 5k race tomorrow and chose to take it easy today. Plus single parent duty this week has kicked my butt.
Breakfast was old faithful Coffee & Eggs! I’m such a creature of habit it’s ridiculous.
Rather than working out this AM I caught up on my celeb gossip and e-mail. INBOX ZERO is always my goal but it never happens. This morning I was sidetracked by the news of Sketchers those SUPER UGLY shape up shoes that are now proven to not work and be false advertising. I can’t decide if I’m more excited that they don’t work and I never bought them or that Kim Kardashian was their spokesperson?
Moving on….Last summer I struck up a conversation with another fellow runner at a party. He was a FAST runner where I’m more of a I’m getting there kind of runner. We discussed all the crazy runs we had tried and I was surprised when he asked me how many 1 mile races I had run. 1 mile you say?
After discussing half marathons, Iron mans and Boilermakers I was kind of shocked. Especially since I had NEVER run a one miler. Well to be fair I have run a 1 miler those were mandatory in high school gym class! Much like my running times now; back then I could go from being the 5th fastest finisher in my grade one year to “hey look she didn’t die” the next.
I was always mildly athletic in high school but running wasn’t my thing. I was a swimmer and preferred the sweet smell of chlorine and latex to that of sunshine and sweat. I ran in a lot in college but got away from it when I entered the “real world”.
I started running again after having my first baby and like all crazy people say I feel in love with it. Running can be an addiction. I’m still not the fastest runner but I love the feeling.
I was VERY EXCITED this week to get an e-blast from a local shop that has developed not one but THREE one mile races in the area! After months of searching for a one mile race close to home I had been sent many!
I can’t wait to run these. It’s been a long time since I ran a simple mile as fast as I can! They should make for some exciting race recaps as well. One speedy mile race is coming up next month with two others to follow throughout the summer!
It’s Friday!! Have you ever run a 1 mile race? Thoughts on the the shape-ups?
