Whoa workouts! It was a Full Fitness Friday.
I’m currently doing some two-a-days. A morning workout and an intro to Crossfit classes in the evening. It’s only two times a week but I couldn’t have been less excited when my morning PlYo was a KettleBell workout! I also began to regret that two-mile run I packed in before class even started.
Oh Kettlebells you look so fun and colorful yet you pack a deceiving workout in one little punch. Our instructor Lisa sets it up so you complete a TON of reps, but never feel overwhelmed or over worked. 10 movements, 10 reps, 5 cycles. I was feeling NO pain till the 3rd round then I was secretly hoping there was a nap session to rest up for the 4th and 5th rounds. Our entire class powered through and finished strong.
It’s funny how when you are doing the workout you are thinking …. “OMG I’m going to DIE”. Then the second the class is over you are all like “HECK YEAH let’s DO IT AGAIN!” Oh workout endorphins you make me smile.
In between my workouts I had the chance to have lunch with my good friend Brigitte! Who I don’t get to see nearly as often as I would like. We used to work together and see each other everyday now we schedule a lunch every few months to catch up on life. We headed to the Blue Water Grill for some casual eats.
This salad was the BOMB! As we were leaving a table of ladies behind us came in and sat down to fruity colorful alcoholic drinks and we had to wonder if we were doing lunch wrong? 😉
After completing a bunch of work projects in the afternoon, I headed out to Burn City Crossfit for class. We kicked things off with our 1″ PVC pipe and reviewed all the moves we had learned over the first 2 classes. I teach on Wednesday nights so I wasn’t able to be at that class. I was playing a little bit of catch up, to the other class members, but was happy I have minimal lifting experience to fall back on.
After going through warm ups and reviewing movements we had the chance to get a hold of the real bar and practice our skills. We started with back squats and moved to front squats with an overhead press.
There has been much conversation among my CrossFit friends about thumb tucking. Who does it who doesn’t do it. After looking at the pictures, I’ve discovered I’m currently a tucker!
My first week of Crossfit is in the books. I’ve learned a lot, my head is spinning with new vocabulary words and workout movements. Next week should be interesting since we are moving into more of the gymnastic movements. Let’s be honest a gymnast I am not, so I’m expecting to learn a TON!
After class we had the opportunity to watch a real life WOD. And WOW a whole new level of respect for these athletes.
Questions of the Day: Are 1:30pm alcohol lunches awesome yea or nay? Do you two-a-day? Thumb Tucker?
