My entire family has been giddy with excitement since the LA KINGS won the Stanley Cup back in May. Although we are a family of New Jersey Devils Fans, the LA KINGS winning meant there was a chance that Dustin Brown (LA KINGS player) might bring the cup to his hometown of Ithaca, NY.
If you aren’t familiar with hockey it has become a tradition for each player on the winning team to spend a day with the cup where they choose. Some take it home for the day, others bring it to charity events, and, some even take it on vacation. It was confirmed a few weeks ago that Brown would in fact bring the cup to his hometown!
Ithaca is drivable from where we live and how exciting would it be to see the cup in person?!
It was a miserable, dreary drive to Ithaca this morning. My oldest son was soo excited to see the Cup. Upon arrival it became clear we were not the only ones excited to see it! This is just a shot of the front of the line…this puppy snakes the entire length of the football field! The photo ops were to run from 9am-12 noon. We arrived at 9:20AM to be told there were over 1,000 people in line in front of us and they only expected to be able to see about 700.
After the drive there it was disappointing to hear we wouldn’t be able to get close to it. UNTIL another woman said the bleachers had a perfect spot to see the Cup from! Off we went and oh baby was she right!
My oldest was the happiest boy on the planet just being close to it! He also informed us the entire ride home he was happy we didn’t get too close since he can’t touch it. It’s bad luck to touch the cup if you haven’t won it! He also went on to tell us about what he will do when he wins it. I looove him!
The keeper of the Stanley Cup was there as well, seeing him in real life just reminded me of the “Hello, this is Peggy” commercial! Those ads crack me up!
You really can’t tell in these pictures but it was POURING most of the time that we were there. We dryed out by walking around a mall not far from the event. Not that I minded, I’ll shop anytime! Then we took the little man for lunch before we headed back home.
Little man was my photographer who took all the food pictures you see below.
I had a turkey avocado wrap with fries.
And he had a hot dog and fries.
It was a rainy Stanley Cup viewing but it was cool to see it in person! Now to be a bum and watch some Olympic Swimming!
Swimming is my favorite part of the summer Olympics. Also side note what did everyone think of the opening ceremonies last night? I think Danny Boyle should have laid off the drugs when planning it since the entire time I wondered what the heck was going on! I did like the Queen skydiving!
