That title might be a little much for this post but it’s my general feeling so let’s roll with it….I will however, preface this post with I’m not the best at interior design but after a month or two of living here we have finally decided to hang some things on the wall. Way back in May Modern Map Art contacted me and asked if I would be interested in sampling one of their maps. I checked them out online and thought OH M Gee they are so cute but did not match my old house decor at all. Luckily we were moving….clean slates right?
The map arrived a few weeks after we moved in and I was sooo excited to get to decorating…well I was excited until I just couldn’t figure out what I wanted on the walls. It’s not a dilemma I know, but we couldn’t agree on anything. First we had the map framed but after the framing it just didn’t look the same to me and not like something an adult would hang on her living room wall… back to square one. Note to self: a cheap black frame from Michaels always looks like a cheap black frame from Michaels… no dice.
Happily our good friends Adam and Jen bought us this adorable shadow box as a house-warming gift which I had planned to stuff with family photos and hang somewhere cute. But the more I saw the frame the more I knew what I wanted to do with it!
The biggest problem I had: what would go with it? Then I stalked my local Marshall’s for options that would compliment my few glorious map art! I wish I could take better pictures of this… like the kind that jump of the screen like a good staged shot on pinterest. How do they do it? Instead I’m showing you the gorgeous wooden trays that were hand-made in India that we turned into shelves to off set our gorgeous framed map of Skaneateles which has my heart and also a lot of my people in it.
I’m hoping to add bits and pieces of funky pieces to the collection as we find them. A good master piece takes time but I think we’ve got some good bones to work with here. And how lovely is this map? I loved the website and combed though so may different cities, I wanted to buy just because they looked so cool. If you need a gift for someone who is moving or have moved these are perfect!
And whola there are actually things FINALLY hanging on our living rooms walls…most everything else is blank slate but even small progress is progress
Speaking of progress….I’ve wanted to, since the day we moved into the new house, try to run/walk a loop that is pretty challenging. Think LOTS of Hills…not like my old loop with one HUGE hill… no this is just undulating it’s up and down and UP and DOWN and Up and Down.
This picture does this no justice… but I’m pretty happy that I finally bit the bullet and made it happen this weekend! It was a lot shorter than I thought it was going to be. Just 4 short miles but my lack of running fitness was showing. It’s a new goal though and one I should be able to stick with through the fall. Come on long summer like fall… I’m counting on you!
And that’s what’s rocking my world this week… I know normal adults don’t applause for hanging items on their walls but it’s been two months…so I’m celebrating even the smallest victories at this point. And since it’s on trend with all the “farm house chic” I thought you my lovely readers, may enjoy it as well.
Question of the Day: Check out the Modern Map Art website and tell me is your town map amazing or what? Also do you have any fun fall fitness plans coming up?
