Come along and join me for another monthly box subscription review! Today we are reviewing the KONA KASE. Performance. Fueled. Monthly. For $15 a month you will receive 8-10 endurance nutrition samples delivered right to your doorstep! Taylor from Kona Kase asked me to review their box a few weeks ago and since I’m shopping for a new monthly subscription box I happily accepted the opportunity. I’ve said it before I’m playing the field, on a search for the perfect box.
I feel in love with the box and in a weird way I found it really inspiring. Did you know ORANGE is the happiest color? All those action words made me want to move!
Inside I found even more inspiration! It was full of some of my favorites for keeping strong on long runs.
My Kona Kase contained:
Gatorade Prime Pouch – Berry
Clif Builder’s – Mint
FRS Healthy Energy Powder – Orange
2nd Surge – Chocolate
Vega Sport Electrolyte Hydrator – Lemon Lime
Powerbar – Banana
Sharkies – Berry
Larabar – Blueberry Muffin
When I ran my first half marathon last year Powerbars and Larabars were my go tos for before workout energy. I was excited for these samples since I’m familiar with them and know I enjoy them. The Gatorade Prime Pouch caught my eye, I’ve seen these at the store and always wanted to try one. I’ve heard good things about them and have this one all set up for my long run tomorrow. Bring on the fuel!
The FRS Drink mixes are great in a bottle of water. Ever since having children Orange “flavors” I have to be careful with. I think it has something to do with flashbacks to those awful glucose drinks you have you to drink when you are pregnant. I also had gestational diabetes and had to repeat those tests several times. Sometimes even the smell of orange flavoring makes me ill. That being said though I do like these packets. I tried one late last week and didn’t feel my usually end of workout fogginess.
The Sharkies look promising for longer runs. I’m not a big fan of the GU drinks. They tend to give me heartburn. I like finding other options for on the go energy.
I’m nervous to try the Chocolate 2nd Surge. During the Mountain Goat Run which is a 10 mile run here in Syracuse they had a GU station. Between mile 6-7 they were handing out energy packets at the water station. Without thinking I grabbed one and drank it up. It was Chocolate flavor which was NOT what I was expecting, I ended up gagging and almost loosing it on the spot. For the rest of the race all I could smell was chocolate and sweat. I haven’t been able to use chocolate energy drinks again. I’m noticing as I write this post I seem to be hyper sensitive to smells…or I’m just the strangest person on the planet?
They also enclosed this great information sheet that I found fascinating and an indication I might need more protein in my diet:
I really liked this box for a few reasons. First all of these samples are things I regularly use during my trainings and workouts. Second it’s marathon season and this box would make an amazing gift to any of my running friends…paired with a box of bath salts, I have no questions they would LOVE it. One thing I might suggest adding is a sheet that explains the products for those who might not be familiar.
For $15 I couldn’t go out and buy this many great workout snacks which makes it a great deal! I also really like the fact that this is the first box of health/fitness related focus that didn’t include some sort of appetite suppressant. THANK YOU KONA KASE!
