First most of my readers know our entire family is a bunch of StarWars nerds but check out my kick ass new workout shirt! My youngest little guys loves it, I have to admit I do too! It’s not wick gear, but it’s fun!
Last Night my sister-in-law and I decided to take in a new group class. Looking through the schedule that was available we decided on a gut & butt class. The gym is one we both have memberships to but don’t often attend.
Sounds simple enough right? Get in a great ab/buns workout and call it a successful day. Sadly that isn’t the way this class went…more on that in a second. But it got me thinking how often have you saw a class name on a schedule and had a workout experience nothing like what is listed in the name?
When I see guts & butts as a class title I am expecting lots of crunches, squats, and planks. I’m expecting variations of bicycle leg crunches, donkey kicks and mountain climbers. I am expecting to not be able to sit down in a chair the following day without a twinge of pain.
What I NOT expecting is…a step class. Not only a step class but a step class with a million moves. I am not a dancer, I couldn’t even pretend for a day to be one. I can’t count and I can’t follow along, my body just doesn’t get it. I avoid step classes for the most part, I tend to get frustrated rather than sweaty which to me is a waste of a good workout.
But for one glorious hour this evening I basically attended a step class. A step class that was titled incorrectly and teased me into thinking I was going to burn my abs off. When she asked us to grab our weighted bars I got giddy, finally now the butt workout I was anticipating! I quote the instructor “get ready ladies we are about to do a lot of squats.” GREAT just what I need! About 15 squats later be still my teary heart it was over.
There were no planks, and only about 30 crunches it wasn’t the class I thought I was going to be based on the gym class title.
Has this ever happened to you?
