Hola! It’s been a busy one, gesh oh man!
Today was an early one but I have to say I love getting workouts in before work it makes for a much happier day. I dread rushing to the gym after work. I’m lucky in that my gym has a child watch program so I can take the boys with me. But…. I’m unlucky in that my youngest is bit of a rebel and believes all rules are made to be broken and escapes from the child watch room at least once a session. The first time he escaped I was horrified to think my child was the one who wouldn’t listen and follow the rules. (would they let us come back? Oh NO!) They did let us back in and now they just call him the escape artist and keep an extra close eye on him! And now even the janitors know his name, He’s famous!
I enjoy having a treadmill in my house for the mornings though! No need to wake anyone up, and I can enjoy a cup of joe in the stillness afterwords!
Today’s work out was this
Dread Treadmill Run:
This usually lands me somewhere between 2-3 miles. Some days I’m feeling crazy and only slow down to a 5.0 rather than a walk, today though was NOT one of those days. I should also mention as a quick disclaimer this is what I do, every person is different so your speeds will vary. (faster for some slower for others) Also I’m not a fitness expert or doctor please consult with a professional to determine your needs.
My breakfast was Another Killer egg scramble with salsa! Yummmm at this rate I’m going to need to buy a chicken to support my habit!
But my real excitement this week has been planning my
victory veggie garden! When we bought this house there was a HUGE ugly building on this plot of land. After coaxing my husband into tearing the sucker down last summer I knew this was where I wanted to plant my garden. Let’s not lie he was more excited to tear the shed down than I was. Must be a guy thing!
The sunshine in this area is almost all day long so I know it’s a great growing space.
I’m all about gardening even though I’m not that great at it. I just love being able to have fresh veggies I can pick myself! We live in Upstate so our growing season is nothing to get overly enthusiastic about. It is however long enough to get some great beans, peas, and squash in! At our old house we planted a massive garden in what turned out to be the rainiest summer on record it was horrible but we did get to eat some out of it.
But 2012 will be our year! I have two sons who love dirt and that means 4 extra hands to help
weed tend to the crops.
This is my plan at this point. Notice two, 2, TWO rows of Squash one yellow one green. Grilled squash with red onion is a summer staple for me! We have tried Potatoes and Carrots before but they have gigantic slugs in the soil here that I can’t seem to keep from eating everything I plant. I’m opting out for the ingound stuff. Aside from radishes but they are ready so early in the season the slugs fingerscrossed won’t be out yet.
I’ll keep you all posted on our progress. Here’s to farming in 2012!
Have you ever planted a garden? What’s your best tip for the novice gardeners?
