This month my Foodie Pen Pal was Gina from Healthy Love & Chocolate. Her blog is super cute you should check it out. Gina sent me some wonderful goodies for a mom on the go! Chocolate & Almonds ummm YES don’t twist my arm!
I was super excited to try out the Vega smoothie! I think everyone who I follow on twitter is drinking them daily and I’ve been feeling a little left out. Side note don’t feel left out give me a follow on twitter @cusecomm
One sip of this smoothie and I KNEW what all the talk was about. Smooth and yummy I’m going to need to jump on the bandwagon of daily drinkers.
Gina is also a girl after my own heart. She shopped local for all my foodie box items. She’s a locavore too! Check out these amazing dried white nectarines she picked up at a farmers market! They are sweet, chewy and crunchy all at the same time. A great on the go snack. I have never had anything like them before. I’m a fan!
Yummy almonds with a citrus flavor…
And this chocolate wow-wee! Gina said it’s a local to her company creating it. The dark chocolate and citrus I was a little nervous about since I was expecting orange and chocolate. Not at all it was delicious rich dark chocolate! I’m still trying to decide how to pronounce it… T-CHO, TCHOW, Tee-Cee-Ho, I have no idea but they make a fabulous product.
The power snacks I haven’t actually tried yet I’m saving them for a special event! Probably this weekend since I will be running some races and getting ready like a crazy woman for the upcoming school year. I’m going to need all the superfoods I can get to keep me from inhaling some less than great choices. Gina said they are her favorite and that’s why I’m saving the best for last!
Thank you again Gina for all the great new food items to try! This program is a great way to expand your palate!
Interested in learning more about Foodie Pen Pals or signing up? Lindsay from the Lean Green Bean has done what I can a CRAZY great job as the mastermind and executor of this program. The rules are this:
Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
Speaking of food I’ve had a TON of questions from readers about Mercer’s Wine Ice Cream. Here is what I have found. If you live in Texas and I know many of you do here the map: http://www.vinotreats.com/Locations.html For everyone else here is their facebook page and their website with complete listings. There is lots of chatter on their facebook page about new locations. Good Luck in getting some of this deliciousness!
Happy Friday! I hope everyone has some plans for the long weekend that don’t include work! Just workin’ out

Awesome! I heard of this a couple of months ago but seeing it blogged really makes me want to join. I’ll head on over to Lindsay’s blog. Yay!
Lauren you should sign up. I love the variety of items I get each month and some months I get to make new blogger friends!
Lucky woman! I usually just say “T.C.H.O” like all separate letters? I’ve had the opportunity to sample their chocolate and it’s amazing!! And I love those snacks. On the weekend of an out of town race those saved my life bc I snacked on them in the car and after the race. So yummy!
