I can’t decide if it was a cosmic intervention or divine luck that my friend Joy reached out to me last month and asked me to work with her on a project for her new business. Her new project is a darling little etsy shop that brings a smile to my face each time I visit, and her project for me was to find joy in the everyday.
I’ve decided it was a serendipitous request. This month wasn’t planned to be different from any other month of the year but for me it’s turned out to be a VERY different month. I’m not overly attached to work but I do love the people I work with, and have always been a big believer in that people make places special. So when my co-worker announced he was leaving it was a weird moment for me. Sure people come and go this isn’t my first go round but this one seem to strike me differently. Maybe it’s because it’s a moment of career growth for me as well but maybe just because it’s a change I wasn’t expecting. Joy’s request struck me as extra special as I wrangled with my own feelings about the change that is coming for March.
Finding Joy in my Days:
I found myself taking an extra deep breath at Yoga and hitting my mat much more often with a different focus. Rather than removing tension I just tried to take each moment in and enjoy it, almost as if at any moment it could all change…and it might.
I took the advice on the bracelet to heart tried to find lots of joy in the journey.
I stopped on my morning runs to really witness the sunrise, things I normally let pass with little fanfare…it happens everyday right? But there is something magical about being able to find joy in the everyday. The everyday happens much more often than the extraordinary.
I took a look around rather than rushing to the next activity to seek out joy in moments. I laughed at my kids silly yo mama jokes, and tried to be less rigid with everything. It’s funny when you think about finding joy you really can find it places we often overlook.
Yesterday I was struck again by pure joy in a moment that I wasn’t even aware of until after…
My nephew(s) hockey team won the sectional title and in a moment that was caught in a photograph sent to me by another spectator… I can’t help by smile each and every time I look at it. It’s literally a photograph of pure joy:
My older nephew lifting up my youngest son in a moment of pure happiness. I love this picture for a million reasons.
Thanks to joy for helping me all this month find joy in the moments and the things I might have overlooked without her jewelry to inspire me.
My next purchase from her shop will be this beautiful sterling silver set: Choose Joy.
The subtle reminder to look for the joy is the perfect way to keep an open heart and mind. I am ga-ga for everything in Joy’s shop and I hope you will check out her store and find what speaks to you and #findjoyeveryday.
