It was an amazing weekend! My first ever Warrior Dash… this race was NUTS!! It’s a 5k up a ski hill with some of the toughest obstacles I’ve ever encountered. Oh and the weather made warriors out of most of use before we even hit the trail!
I completed my experience with some great friends from home! I have known these girls for what seems like forever. We got to catch up, laugh about past adventures, and test our camping skills. **Please note (in photo order) Michele = camping level expert. Maureen and I more in the never have camped crowd.
We decided to truly have a “warrior” experience camping is the only way to go so here is a photo of our home for the weekend. This tent I won almost 3 years ago and just used for the first time this weekend. Northface tent AM-Az-ing, it was so easy to put together that even I thought for a
minute brief second I was outdoorsy. We had bonfires, cocktails and even some inappropriate bear conversations all weekend long!
Saturday morning bright and early
slightly hungover we made the trek from our campground to the course. It was a mixed bag weather day…sunshine or thunder, lighting and rain. And every two hours it changed from one to the other. Luckily we got there just in time for the heat that took off in the sunshine! And up the HILL we went.
The start line had these flames shooting out of it that went off right as we went under it, and for a minute I thought I might be burned to a crisp. The course wasn’t as bad as I was expecting I have been training thinking I was going to be running straight up a mountain for 1.5 miles. Luckily the trail leveled out a few time on the climb and I ended up getting to run much more than I had planned to. The up hills quickly turn into people walking or speed walking which was perfect for me.
The obstacles were challenging and if this year had a theme it was barbed wire! As a farm girl I wasn’t intimidated by it at all. I’ve got scars across from my stomach from a bike/barbed wire fence incident when I was younger so mentally I knew I couldn’t get hurt worse than those scars.
Since we all rain in the same heat together I don’t have any pictures of us running the course or finishing but it was so much fun. Best part passing people while running the downhill portions. I also kicked one lady in the head while trying to pass her over some up and over hip high boards. Sorry lady who I don’t know….
After the race you wash off in these “showers” of sorts.
I finished the race in 1:14:00 which put me #266 in my age group out of 1,486 ladies. Overall I also finished 2,446 out of 8,153 runners. For me this is an amazing finish and only made me mad about the amount of time I wasted waiting in line at obstacles. Next year I’m pushing ahead of slow people!!
Michele from our group was the BIG winner of the day. When we left she was in 6th in her age category!! So happy for her, she hauled ass!
After the race you can also donate your shoes to GreenSneakers a great organization that collects sneakers and provides them to those need across the world. If you ever run one of these races be SURE to bring your old shoes to donate!
My after I was cleaned up, getting peppered with rain shot!
It was a #sweatdirty #fitfluential weekend! Now I’m off for some cuddle time with my kids and hubs. I missed them all weekend long. sometimes the best part of any trip is arriving back home
