Let it be known I am deathly afraid of heights. I hate them and would do anything to avoid them.
The morning sort of started off in a blur so much so that I went ALL DAY yesterday without a cup of coffee! I’m not sure how I survived but it’s good to know it can be done. After cleaning and morning routines I left to get in some of my P90X class. I say some because I had to scoot our early to get my son to his birthday party. Hey 45 is better than nothing right?
I rushed home, changed and we were off again this time to Wonderworks at Destiny to celebrate a birthday! We arrived and found our way to the party room. After pizza, singing and cake the children were given the option of doing the canyon ropes course. At first my son hesitated and didn’t seem very interested in the ropes course. Perfect I thought since they had said a parent would have to go up with them. Please note the first sentence of this post. Sadly for me his hesitation was short-lived then he was ALL about getting up there with his friends.
Not only did he get up on the ropes course but he had NO fear!
Special HUGE thank yous from me to the other parents who went up as well. I seriously didn’t want small children to see me cry about being off the ground 😉
I was so proud of my little explorer. At the same time it was a pretty clear reminder that fear can really limit us from enjoying an amazing experience. All I could think about was the height, I couldn’t even see that it could be pretty liberating experience and a great confidence booster. R stayed up on the course for a least 45 minutes and did a fantastic job. When he got down he said “(he) I was nervous but I just kept going”. Side note: This is a very cool place to have a birthday party!
After watching his brother do the big ropes of course B was bound and determined to do it too. Sadly he’s still much too short for the course so we decided to take him down to enjoy the mini course which he navigated with the same spirit as his brother above.
After the birthday party and the high of watching both our boys rock the ropes course I realized I hadn’t yet eaten! When I said the morning was a blur I was serious. It was almost 2pm and I was starving. Booo I do not suggest this ever. When we finished up we were basically standing at the entrance to Toby Keith’s I love this Bar and Grill. It didn’t look too busy so we decided to check it out.
Ugh this was a huge mistake. After being seated and waiting about 10 minutes for our waitress we ordered drinks. And the next waiting game started…..my husband actually took his glass and my sons to the waitress station to get refills before our food came. The menu is straight up bar food, which I expected. And it was obvious from all the looks of other tables they were “enjoying” it as much as we were. I ordered my burger medium which came out well done….gross. Sadly I hadn’t eaten and knew I couldn’t handle another 35 minute wait for a correct burger so I ate it. My poor husbands meal wasn’t any better. It really says something when the best part of the meal were the fries.
After we ate we again played a LONG waiting game so much so we all had time to take turns taking our children to the bathroom! If you have had or have small children you know how long this can take. While we waited I decided to check out reviews on foursquare and seriously I should have done that first. Wow, they are not pretty and most of them I agreed with 100%.
I hate being critical of restaurants especially since I worked in them for years but this was excessively bad.
After we left and debated telling the folks waiting outside to skip it. We checked out the new Puma Outlet. I wanted to everything but ended up leaving with nothing. My fitness closet lately has been eclipsing my regular wardrobe and come winter I might not be so happy about the change. 😉
After going just for a birthday party it ended up being a pretty swell little family day!
Question of the day: Are you afraid of heights? Have you checked out the new Puma sneakers? I’m in LUV!
