When I tell you this weekend completely spoiled me….that’s probably an understatement.
We celebrated my mom’s birthday with a day of family activities that was as close to perfect as you can get. We started the morning off with a fall tradition of apple picking. This year rather than hitting up Beak and Skiff we ventured much farther north to Behlings Orchard in Oswego County.
It was a great choice! There was so much for the kids to do there! Apple picking was just a part of the fun! There were bounce houses, a zip line, pony rides, hayrides, playgrounds and even rides and a train. I was honestly impressed the last time we went to this orchard I don’t remember nearly as many things to do! Plus the weather was absolutely perfect!
We ended up with 19 pounds of apples! R really liked picking his own apples while B really liked sampling the goods as we walked.
After a morning of fun picking massive apples, it was time for some lunch!
We headed to Oswego, NY and an old favorite of mine. The Oswego Sub Shop….oh the food I’ve eaten from that place throughout my college years. It’s been at least 5 years since I’ve been there so this was a serious treat that called for a cheeseburger sub. Trust me it’s just as healthy as it sounds 😉
Since it was my mom’s birthday we also had a little bit of this triple chocolate cake to celebrate!
The cake looks really pretty but didn’t have the robust chocolate flavor I would have expected. Instead it had an almost almond extract flavor. It was the only disappointing part of the day! We all kept trying it to figure out what the flavor was.
After eating we packed up and headed to the SUNY Oswego campus for some
trips down memory lane rock picking by the lake. Honestly it is so beautiful there. It made me miss those college days when I could get to the lake whenever I wanted. Lake Ontario is beautiful anytime of the year but in the fall against the color of the leaves it’s a special beauty.
The kids had a blast picking rocks and we even brought a few special rocks home with us!
Happy Birthday to my Mom and big thanks for the great day with family! We did a lot of walking, hiking, climbing and picking making it the perfect day! A workout filled with family, fun and laughs.
