This weekend was amazing! I officially added race helper/planner to my resume of fitness activities. And I couldn’t be prouder of how the Ardison/Farney Memorial 5k & 10K all turned out! The day was beautiful a few degrees cooler than I like but the community came out in support and smiles to honor two young men’s lives. I love when communities come out and get together in the name of fitness. The running community in Croghan is incredible. There were some very small children running 5k’s. I know that because lots of them passed me 😉
Jay & Cheryl Steiner did a FANTASTIC job bringing new life to this race as directors and I was just honored to be able to help them with a few details! I can’t wait for next year.
The turn out was more than we hoped for and the shirts came out great.
I now understand why people who plan races don’t run them! After setting up and helping people register mentally your brain really isn’t ready to run. Prior to Saturday, I did not know this. I overheard a volunteer being asked if she was running she said no after doing all this I’m not mentally prepared to run. I kept hearing her comment in my head the whole run realizing how correct she was!
Here is a quick shot I snapped right before the race start. Maybe I should have spent this time tying my shoes since I stopped THREE times to re-tie them! Ugh it was not a pretty race for me. I finished in 31.06 which isn’t horrible but nowhere near the PR I was hoping for.
Since I couldn’t find a pace and was still drumming through my brain in race planning mode, it was time to just have some fun with it. In fact I may have taken my new favorite race photo:
My first photo bomb!
This race was also special to me because although he is WAYYY faster than me I did get to run with my brother while he was home on vacation from China! We haven’t been able to do that in a few years!
Massive HUGE Gigantic Thank you’s to all the sponsors, volunteers and runners! We will see you all next year!!

Question of the day: Have you ever helped plan or volunteer at a race? What was your experience.
