Today is a beautiful spring day here in Central New York! The sun is shinning and it finally feels as though spring may be coming (finger crossed did you know upstate winters can last till June?)
See those shadows? SUN causes them! Crazy since I feel like 19 months out of the year I don’t see sun, just snow and ice. I’m exaggerating but it feels that way sometimes. I love popping in on some of my favorite Texas and Florida bloggers to see them enjoying the sunshine while outside my window we are getting pounded with snow.
It was a great run day for me I started out feeling good and Pandora even sent me some butt kicking tunes! Usually I can tell it will be a bad run when I’m not loving the music. Today it kicked of with the Chili Peppers and stayed in a relatively good grove. I had to skip some Tao around mile 5 but other than that it was running music. On long runs I find it’s better for me to not pick the music. I use my ipod on shorter runs but for longer runs I kind of like not controlling the music. I just pop on the station of choice and go.
The run started out amazing and I should have know that a 5k split on a 8miler may spell doom for me. But I felt great! I’m going to blame it on the sunshine endorphins. I really thought I could hold this pace forever!
Around mile 5 it was obvious my hip was not feeling the same way. Some pressure and I started babying it and using my left side for more of the push to go….I knew better but it was SUNNY and I was smiling on a run!
My 10k Split came it at a staggering 1:02 which for me is a PR that should tell you how often I runs 10K’s = VERY Rarely. But again after that milestone I gave my hip a nice long walking break that also corresponded nicely to some rolling hills. It was a good break but I was in no condition to make up for the lost time.
I of course didn’t bring a fuel belt with me so on the walk break I ate some snow. Yes I ate snow from the roadside, if I keel over dead tomorrow tell the people who find me that the road salt probably did me in. I tried to get snow that was as far away from the road as possible but I could see a road biker giving me a weird look as I jumped back on the road to run 😉 A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do ya know?
Mile 7 was back to a nice pace and I even got to pass some fellow street runners which never happens where I live. I guess everyone was busting out from cabin fever.
I finished OK with just one crazy blister on the ball of the foot I was babying…of course! But other than that I’m calling this a successful run in books and I’m sooo excited to be back running outside. I was kind of shocked to see that this run had a 670 foot climb. I never would have guessed that much based on driving it.
If it was a great day for a run…it was a HORRIBLE day to be a Syracuse Basketball Fan….What the What? If you didn’t see it the TEAM collectively didn’t even score 40 points. It was bad.
After the run I had an amazing lunch/breakfast:
Yummm Eggs, bacon, brocoli and cheese with hot sauce of course for the WIN!
Question of the Day: Did you run outside today?
