One of my favorite movies is Office Space. I’m not sure any other movie has come close to harnessing the true feelings that most cubical workers face with their jobs. The movie also eloquently shows how most of us feel about our copy machine. WOW! that sounded so serious! Really the movie makes me laugh and I love saying to random people “somebody’s got a case of the Mondays” It’s equal parts cleaver, ironic and annoying.
The only time I don’t like the movie is when I’m told I have a case of the Mondays….booo. I’ll admit it yesterday was pretty blah for me and today is off to a similar start. I woke up and ate a cupcake. Yes my friends brain food at it’s finest.
I dragged my youngest relucantly to school, I staggered to the gym. I ran a mile in 9 minutes, hit the row machine for a while and then BLAH I was zapped! I came home and did a detox yoga video and am calling it a day. I was hoping to get in 6 miles today…no dice. I’m just not into it.
I have been so focused on the Syracuse Half that as soon as that race was over I could feel my motivation ending. And I’m really struggling to get it back. It seems I want to do ANYTHING but run. I’ve been swimming, crossfiting, I even just did weights on Monday. My feet don’t want to run and my brain is powerless to help me. Sadly my eating habits obviously have been a little off too. I mean while cupcakes for breakfast are delclious I’m not sure it was the best choice? The bad food choices also help add to the blah feeling.
I can’t really blame myself for the funk I did just come off running a half to helping plan a run to setting up a local blogger meet up, to some crazy new work projects maybe it’s my body/brains way of asking for a break?
Ok this is turning in a whine session. Let’s start over…my point is that I need to listen to my body. It doesn’t want to run right now. And just like Peter in Office Space I need to figure out what is going to make me to happy. It’s the only way to get over the serious case of the Mondays I’m struggling with. Running isn’t happy for me right now….but maybe trying out some classes will do me some good. Letting someone else come up with the workout plan rather than me trying to also squeeze that into my limited day.
I need to get serious about what is going in my mouth it’s been a week of crap and it’s no ones fault but my own. I need some inspiration and I think it’s time to get my butt in the kitchen.
I really enjoyed the TRX and CrossFit classes I had taken during the CuseFit series and I’m figuring out now how to get those into my schedule regularly. These should keep me from beating up my treadmill like that poor copier in the movie 😉
I want to know from you when do you switch up your routine? I’m switching mine up because…..well it’s depressing me as it stands now. I need some excitement and new challeneges. In all honesty I think that’s what Peter needed in Office Space too, so I’m stealing a page from his book!
I’m getting rid of these Mondays by switching it up! I’m trying some group fitness classes rather than running sessions and getting back to the kitchen with a few new recipes!
Case of the Mondays BE GONE! Ain’t no body got time for that 😉
Question of the day: How do you keep your workouts exciting? Are you a fan of Office Space?
